Lichfield Cathedral Christmas Tree

This morning Thomas, Taylor and Evie-May have decorated a Christmas Tree in Lichfield Cathedral – with the help of Mrs Partington!

All the decorations were made by the Year 5s from single use plastic to raise awareness of the damage this can do to marine life.  As you will see from the pictures, they look amazing!

Our tree is one of 50 that will be on display in the Cathedral from this weekend (2nd December) until Twelfth Night in January.  There is a competition for the best tree, so we would ask everyone who can, to visit the Cathedral over the festive period and put a vote in for the Churchfield CE Primary Academy Tree.

Jiu Jitsu

Years 2 – 6 had a super day yesterday learning some Jiu Jitsu moves.  The children punched, kicked, rolled and blocked and as you will see from the photos, really enjoyed themselves.

This day followed the Bhangra dancing day earlier in the term, and we are looking forward to more days like this next term.year-6-2 year-6-1 year-5-2 year-5-1 year-3-2 year-3-1 year-2-3 year-2-2 year-2-1

Visiting Horses

Today Year 5 and 6 have enjoyed having 2 rather large visitors in school. Miss. Hill kindly arranged this so that Year 5 and 6 could meet the horses as part of their Science and English this term. In Science they have been looking at evolution and adaptation – it was impressive hearing the children confidently answering questions related to this. Their English novel this term has been the wonderful ‘War Horse’ by Michael Morpurgo. During this novel a farm horse serves in the British Army during World War One. For many of the children today has been their first opportunity to really get close to these beautiful animals.

Google Expeditions

Today our Key Stage 2 classes have visited Mayan ruins in Mexico, The Great Barrier Reef, the Moon, the plains of Africa, and hidden worlds.

It was all thanks to the new Google Expeditions app which we have had demonstrated in school today.  Using the special cardboard headset and a smart phone, children have been immersed in virtual reality worlds, discovering and learning exciting new things.

It was a pleasure to hear the excited “wows and whoas” as the children were transported to the various different places.  They all really enjoyed the experience as the photos show.

Year 5 and 6 at the Peace Service

On Wednesday 19th October, children from Year 5 and Year 6 took part in the Peace Service at St Augustine’s Church, alongside children from several other local school.  The service was built around the theme of refugees.  The children put on a performance called Children of Two Worlds, which compared the lives of western children and children who are refugees.  Father David made references to their words when he spoke to the congregation.  As always, the children were a credit to the school.p1070533 p1070529
